A double-blind, placebo-controlled study examining oral and topical green tea found histologic improvement in elastic tissue but did not find significant clinical differences in photoaging over the study period.[2] This is a good reminder that biologic activity does not always translate into an immediately visible cosmetic change.

Green tea should be described as providing antioxidant support—not as a replacement for sunscreen or a medical treatment for inflammatory disease.

Vitamin C: Brightening and Antioxidant Activity
